Pink Out 2023

Sports

On October 7th the Girls Frosh/Soph, JV, and Varsity volleyball teams competed in Pacifica’s annual Pink Out game and Senior night. This tradition aims to raise awareness for breast cancer, as the teams play in October (breast cancer awareness month). As the Pacifica student body started to trickle into the gym the Frosh/Soph team began playing against Holy Martyrs. Coach Lane led the team to a victory as they quickly defeated the Armens. The star players were Frosh/Soph’s setter Una Dida and middle blocker Olivia Blake, a dominant player at the net.

As the JV game began the gym started to fill with more pink and noise. Megan Rose, a faculty member at Pacifica, led the student section in a new cheer which included barking at the other team like a wolf. This cheer perfectly goes along with Pacifica’s mascot, a Seawolf. The JV team competed against Holy Martyrs and had the same winning results as Frosh/Soph. JV destroyed the Armens in 2 sets. They were led by setter Amadora Paola, who is not only the team’s key player but also their cheerleader on the court. Another star player was Junior outside hitter Frida Macias, who led the team in service aces.

By the time the Varsity games started, the gym was a sea of pink and the student section was on fire. The Varsity girls came out ready to dominate Big Bear High School and were wearing some stellar pink socks. The Varsity team led by Coach Sarah and Coach Brendan looked amazing in warmups showing off their new player Paige Cox, who had a killer hit that stunned the crowd. The student section led by Zane Worth was going crazy cheering on their lady Seawolves the entire night. When the game started, Seniors Mikayla Moynihan and Flynn Husband stood out as leaders on the court and key players for the team. They were both excellent hitters and led the team to a quick victory in 3 sets against Big Bear.

After the game, all the students, parents, and players stayed for a meaningful ceremony to recognize Seniors Mikayla Moynihan and Flynn Husband. Coach Shaw, Brendan, Sarah, and players Elyse Ennis and Vyvien Estes commended the character, dedication, and skill of these ladies. Flynn has been on Varsity for 3 years and has been a very vocal leader on and off the court for the team and this year she is leading as captain. Mikayla has been on Varsity for 4 years leading by example and uplifting her teammates to a standard of excellence. Tears were shed at Senior Night along with many smiles, cheers, laughs, and hugs from the wholesome community of Pacifica that came to support our lady Seawolves at the Pink Out game.
